MIDDLETOWN – Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.

Members of the Middletown Prevention Coalition reminded parents and adults they can make a true difference in the lives of America’s teenagers.

With that in mind, they asked parents to get to know the facts and myths surrounding suicide and to recognize the warning signs. They also encouraged parents to talk to their teens and seek help from mental health providers if something doesn’t seem right.

For more information, Student Support Teams are in place at Middletown High and Gaudet Middle schools. They also suggest seeking assistance from Newport County Community Mental Health at 846-1213, Newport Hospital at 845-1120 or other emergency providers. To learn more, visit online.
