Middletown Prevention Coalition
January 23, 2017
Did you know that 84% of Middletown students (grades 7-12) have not used alcohol or marijuana during the month preceding the survey? (Student Health and Wellness Survey 2015-16) Show your support for these students during THP Project Purple Initiative Week by displaying a lawn signs.
So what’s THP Project Purple Initiative? It’s a national substance abuse prevention initiative of The Herren Project designed to encourage youth to stand up to substance abuse. It promotes good decision making, teaches youth they are good enough just the way they are and empowers them to stand up and make a difference.
Islanders Committed, the youth initiative of the Middletown Prevention Coalition, will take the lead on THP Project Purple Initiative Week activities here in Middletown. This group of Middletown High School students are committed to a healthy lifestyle and host fun, alternative activities for their peers.
What’s the Middletown Prevention Coalition? It is a community-based coalition focused on reducing youth substance abuse while building the assets of our youth and creating a healthy Middletown.
Islanders Committed will be offering THP Project Purple Initiative lawn signs for a donation this week at the MHS home basketball, wrestling, and hockey games Jan 23-27. They will also have THP Project Purple Initiative t-shirts and wristbands available for sale.
Please show your support for Middletown students making healthy decisions by wearing purple to MHS home games January 23-27 and displaying THP Project Purple Initiative lawn signs and/or purple bows on your property January 23 through February 3rd.
